INTL508 – Inter-Agency and International Cooperation in Threat Analysis

Paper Details

To complete this assignment you will need to first work your way through the course simulation.  Your essay responses should pull from your simulation experience, BUT NOT BE BASED ON IT.  Your research of presented concepts within the simulation are the key. As you work to complete the essays below please be sure you judiciously incorporate references in order to 1) to give credit to the originator of the idea, 2) back up and enhance the accuracy of your claims, 3) point out bodies of research that inform your essay, and 4) help readers pursue their own line of research (Turabian 2013).  A reference should appear at the end of each sentence where “you use any idea, data, or method attributable to any source you consulted” (Turabian 2013, 136).Turabian, Kate L. 2013. A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations: Chicago Style for Students & Researchers. 8th ed. The University of Chicago Press.

Simulation Essay Instructions:

The simulation underscored the value of Inter-Agency and International Cooperation in Threat Analysis.  When looking at the totality of the simulation, and based on your additional research, what were the key documents, references, plans, or strategies that facilitated this engagement? Pick two of these references or plans and describe the document (i.e. the focus, how it supported your efforts in the simulation, and from your perspective if additional areas should be addressed) to enhance interoperability between agencies or countries. An example of this type of reference is the EU Counter-Terrorism Strategy: http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/justice_freedom_security/fight_against_terrorism/l33275_en.htm

ANSWER:

Security threats place Americans at risk. Agencies, at the federal and state level, undertake diversified efforts to minimize or eradicate the threats. The government, through the country’s constitution, has established agencies to address security issues[1]. For instance, the United States has a military with various divisions, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). Each of the agencies has a distinctive role; the CIA gathers intelligence from across the world while FBA gathers intelligence from the country’s borders. When security threats occur, the agencies must coordinate with each other until a solution is identified. The importance of inter-agency cooperation in security issues in the wake of terrorism is undeniable. Countries also interact when responding to threats. Importantly, terrorism cuts across nations, and even though it might occur in a given country, it will affect other nations directly and indirectly[2]. The involved countries must have their security organs cooperating in threat analysis so that they can defeat the common enemy – terrorism. The failure of nations or security agencies to cooperate gives terrorist groups a conducive environment for thriving. In that regard, inter-agency and international cooperation insecurity threat analysis is paramount in efforts to realize safety.

Key References in the Simulation

In the simulation of threat analysis, two references stood out because of their contribution to decision-making. The references were reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

The CDC report presented a detailed health report on the epidemic. It enumerated the areas that were affected. Importantly, the report …. To continue reading, click on the button below.
