Review obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and compare to Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. How would you distinguish the two from each other given that they seem so similar, at least on the surface. Explain how function consequences may be a key indicator in being able to distinguish these two diagnosis.

Though Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) may present in some similar ways, they are entirely different. OCD is an anxiety disorder that is characterized by patterns of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead a person to perform repetitive behaviors (compulsions) (Freckelton, 2020). A person with OCD will experience recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are normally unwanted and intrusive. These thoughts and images amount to obsessions. Due to the obsessions, people with OCD will perform repetitive and ritualistic actions that are time-consuming, distressing, and excessive (compulsions) (Freckelton, 2020).
