During this last week you have read much about the disabled person and many of the challenges they endure. You have also read about some of the counseling challenges that arise when working with a member of society managing a disability. Please take some time and share with the group your thoughts on disability and the continued need for ADA enforcements. Also share how you would be different in treatment while working with a person who is disabled. In other words, what would your focus be, what type of interventions would you employ, would you make any exceptions and why, would you treat them in the same manner you would treat everyone else? Please be sure to support your statements by citing your sources to include certainly not limited to the text.

In a majority of the time, disability is linked to negative attitudes and beliefs by people without disability. Disability is often misunderstood and people without disability perceive it as something undesired (Jahoda, Kroese, & Pert, 2017). To that extent, people with disability are ignored and their needs are not met, thus, leading to a situation, where they struggle to fit in. In therapy, some counselors do not take the time to understand the specific needs of clients with disability, have unaccommodating structural environments, and use insensitive language that causes negative thoughts toward people with disability (Sakiz et al., 2017).
