PSYU 304 Week 1 Discussion

Psychologists are often interested in constructs that are internal experiences that are not directly observable. Select an internal experience that is related to the topic you plan to use in your final proposal (i.e., resilience, motivation, depression, achievement, etc.) and then discuss how that construct has been studied. You can find a list of constructs under the Documents and Resources folder in Week 1. It is recommended that you select a construct that closely aligns with the topic you have chosen for your final research paper.
Then, find a research article from a peer reviewed journal in the Chapman library that defines this construct and then discuss how it was measured. Be sure to cite your reference (in 6th edition APA format) that you used and provide the link to the article.
For example, love is a construct and love can be defined in numerous ways. In an article by Robin K. Payne, “Is There Love After Liberation?: The Problem of Romantic Love and the World of Ms. In the 1970s,” published in the Journal of Women’s History in 2019, romantic love is “socially constructed ideal that rewarded women for their dependence on men, feminists were often bitterly divided over how to confront that reality” (p. 133). The research uses qualitative research, a case study of Ms. Magazine. Three specific episodes in the magazine’s history are analyzed.

It is imperative to state that motivation involves biological, emotional, cognitive, and social forces that activate behavior. The construct of motivation has been a subject of study as psychologists struggle to understand how to develop positive motivation and behavior (Trépanier et al. 2020).
