Domestic violence is the subject matter that we are all familiar with as members of society. In some form, we have a personal visual image of what domestic violence looks like or is to each of us. The question now is, should domestic violence have a specific image or a universally accepted definition to all therapists? This is a question we will explore as your goal for this assignment is to articulate a clear understanding of what domestic and family violence looks like for treating clinicians. Based on your reading from this week please share with us your detailed and supported clinical understanding of what domestic violence or domestic family violence means. In your response, please indicate if domestic violence is a crime and clearly address the ethical guidelines therapists must follow when working with clients dealing with domestic violence as part of their relationship. Lastly, please identify which theoretical foundation (be specific and clearly offer a relevant and convincing rationale) you believe would be most helpful while working with a couple or family dealing with domestic violence.
