On pages 237 – 238 of your textbook you found 26 recommendations for managing suicidal behavior.
Select three of these recommendations which you would likely use in working with a potentially suicidal
client. Explain why you feel each of the three recommendations you have chosen are important in
supporting your client and share how you would personally apply each recommendation.
The use of specific evidence illustrated through the inclusion of examples and references will enhance
your response in representing your personal understanding of our topic.
Answer
As a family therapist, I will undoubtedly encounter clients with suicidal thoughts. As Grayson (2019) says, a majority of people will say that they are fine, but they do not really mean it. As a therapist, I must go beyond the presentation that things are working well and unravel the causes of suicidal thoughts while helping the client develop a positive perception about life. As Shadow Wolves Productions (2018) indicates, most people with suicidal thoughts will have a seemingly happy life Just like Claire Prescott and one would wonder why such a person would suffer depression.
