Line managers at Loch View Hotel have recently made several unsuccessful recruitement decisions, a couple of which have led to the hotel being taken to an employment tribunal.

Investigations revealed that there was one key area which needed to be addressed, namely that numerous line managers did not understand the importance of the legal framework of recruitment in the UK (including discrimination, diversity, equality etc).
In light of this there are three tasks to complete.
1. Design a learning intervention.
A learning intervention is a planned session or a planned series of events; not a team building exercise.
Your task is to design a realistic learning intervention for line managers, which addresses this shortfall. The intervention should take into consideration the nature of the business and its sector.
A short delivery plan must be included which clearly identifies elements such as resources required for delivery and an evaluation plan.
2. Develop original material(s) to support the learning intervention
Materials to support the intervention may include one or more of the following:
• A PowerPoint presentation with notes;
• A video,
• An audio presentation,
• A game,
• Or any other item which is appropriate to support your chosen intervention
Please note that we will be assessing the quality of the intervention; it is up to you how many relevant items are included.
3. Produce a critical justification report
Produce a critical justification report on;
• the intervention design
• the implementation plan
• the planned evaluation.
This should include appropriate academic underpinning. The report should have a 1500 (+/- 10%) word count.
The report should be structured formally in accordance with the ‘Guide to Report Writing’ on CampusMoodle).

Materials to Support Learning Intervention – Mapping Game
The instructor will guide the line managers into completing the mapping game and awards them marks after successful completion. The mapping game will entail organising the line managers into groups of at least three. The instructor will then mention a law relating to employment in the UK and which was covered in the presentation and expect each team to indicate the year it was enacted. In the long run, each team will have mapped al the laws and regulations, and this will increase their understanding. For instance, by mentioning the Equality Act, each team will be expected to record the year of enactment, which is 2010. The best team – the ones who will develop an accurate map – will be rewarded.
