Initial Post Instructions

If you have a problem that has multiple variables, you can solve it using a system of equations. Think of a real-world example where you would need to solve using a system of equations. Write two or three sentences describing your example. Include the equations in your description, but do not solve the system. That will be left to your classmates.

ANSWER:

The problem can be solved either by elimination or substitution. I chose substitution because according to our text, “Solve one of the two equations for one of the variables in terms of the other.

  1. Substitute the expression for this variable into the second equation, then solve for the remaining variable.
  2. Substitute that solution into either of the original equations to find the value of the first variable. If possible, write the solution as an ordered pair.” (OpenStax. (2015)
