Original Case Development (Part 1, Week 9)

For this assignment, you will develop a case study that will be used as the basis for an online discussion during Week 11. Using the general format of the case studies you’ve read, write a description of a situation that you experienced or witnessed. This case should be no more than five pages in length. You may add exhibits if they will help inform the case, but they are not necessary.
The process for development of the original cases will be as follows:
During Week 9, you will work independently to prepare a draft of your original case for peer review. you will post the following to the discussion board for peer review:
• 3-4 page draft of the case
• list of at least 3 references that would inform an analysis of the case
• draft of two discussion questions

Introduction

My friend Nancy* (not her real name) was twenty-eight years old when she became pregnant. She attended prenatal care for the first trimester and part of the second trimester of the pregnancy without any abnormalities being detected. She does not have a family history of diabetes or hypertension. Nancy had maintained normal body weight though she always felt that she needed to manage the weight. She had hoped for a normal pregnancy and had not detected any signs of challenges. She had even gone ahead to plan for a vacation with her husband, where they would take memorable pregnancy photographs. As she entered the third trimester, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, prompting her to cancel her plans and seek specialized medical attention.

Case Description

Nancy was one and a half years in marriage when she got pregnant. During this time, she was twenty-eight years old and hoped for a healthy pregnancy.
