This week, you will complete your argumentative paper. Following the directions in assigned textbook reading on how write an argumentative essay on the issue you chose in Week 1. Be sure your essay contains the following:

  • An opening paragraph that states a clear thesis that is focused, plausible, and arguable and that gives direction and purpose to the paper
  • A fair-minded, balanced, and objective development of the pros and cons of the issue in a well-organized sequence of ideas, free of mechanical errors
  • Credible, reliable, and authoritative evidence in support of the points made
  • A strong conclusion that summarizes your views, reminds the audience of the issue and its importance, and shows in brief that you have successfully defended your thesis.

There are various types of health insurance systems. These include the multi-payer and single-payer systems. Healthcare costs are funded by one entity in a single-payer system, usually the government (Brown, 2019). The government does not necessarily own or operate the system but instead uses revenues accrued via taxation to meet the costs. On the other hand, a multi-payer system involves multiple entities. Usually, these entities include the government and private insurance companies (Brown, 2019). The latter are engaged as individual citizens pay their premiums directly to the insurance companies. Both single-payer and multi-payer systems can have different terms of coverage. However, the most common and favored term of coverage is universal coverage. This type of insurance implies that all the people within the covered jurisdiction have healthcare insurance.

In the United States, we have a hybrid, multi-payer system. As such, we have health insurance offered by the government and private insurance firms (Brown, 2019). It incorporates both elements of a single-payer system in the Medicare program. Additionally, it has publicly subsidized private payers, self-pay, and socialized medicine elements (Brown, 2019).
