ANSWER:
To mean, to self-regulate means to monitor oneself. In this case, it refers to me being able to monitor and control my cognitive abilities and activities. Given the context we learned in Chapter 2, we would say that we use self-regulation to make inferential judgments. We use the skill to assess, correct, question, or even affirm our deductions. Most importantly, we use self-regulation in challenging and rising above our biases. Biases have a significant influence on our thinking process and often have a negative effect. With self-regulation, we are conscious and self-aware of these biases and how they may interfere with our inferential process. Overall, the skill of self-regulation enhances the effectiveness and validity of our inferential deductions.
