One important thing I learned from the article that I read was that there are three main signs that point to shaken baby syndrome (SBS): subdermal hematoma (bleeding in the brain) (MedLinePlus, n.d.), cerebral edema (swelling), and retinal hemorrhage (bleeding inside the eyes) (NINDS, 2019). Doctors must find the symptoms and then prove that they weren’t caused by something else before they can say that the injuries were caused by SBS (Vinchon, 2017).
