The contemporary society is a media-saturated society that exerts pressure and exposes the audience to the pressure of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating. In American society, up to 80 percent of Americans watch television on a daily basis and are likely to watch content that exerts pressure on body image and satisfaction. The increase in people with obesity in the U.S has also been attributed to spending long hours watching television, however, media has also been linked to the increased incidences of eating disorders as media emphasizes body ideals and puts values on the attractiveness of individuals. Whenever the audience uses media, content on weight loss and attraction significantly affects them especially if they value body shape and weight. The role of media in creating a notion of the ideal body size, shape, and disordered eating cuts across all genders.
